The Link Between Thoughts, Feelings & Behavior ~ Thoughts are a catalyst for self-perpetuating cycles ~ What we think directly influences how we feel and how we behave ~ So if we think we are a failure ~ We will feel like a failure ~Then, we will act like a failure, which reinforces your belief that we must be a failure ~ I see this happen all the time in my therapy office ~ Someone will come in saying, ‘I’m just not good enough to advance in my career’~ That assumption leads them to feel discouraged and causes them to put in less effort & become more discouraging!

That lack of effort prevents them from not receiving promotion ~ That they desire!

Or, someone will say, ‘I’m really socially awkward.’ So when that individual goes to a social gathering, they stay to in the corner by themselves ~ When no one speaks to them, it reinforces their belief that they must be socially awkward.

Someone who develops the belief that they are a failure, for example, will view each mistake as proof that they are not good enough. When they do succeed at something, they will chalk it up to ‘luck’.

Consider for a minute that it might not be lack of talent or lack of skills that are holding them back. Instead, it might their ‘chosen’ belief that keeps them from performing at their peak.

Choosing to Create ~ a more POSITIVE outlook can lead to better outcomes. Positive thoughts SEEM TO have Magical Powers. Optimistic thoughts lead to productive behavior, which increases the chances of a successful outcome.

EXAMINE THE LABELS that may be being placed on ourselves or others! Maybe Choosing to think ‘negatively’ ~ may become  ‘self-fulfilling prophesy’ you’ve declared incompetent. Or perhaps we think we (or our boss) are bad leaders ~

Remind yourself that ‘those beliefs don’t have to allow in the psyche ~ WILL ONLY RESTRICT POTENTIAL ~ Just because you think something, doesn’t make it true.

The good news is, WE can ‘CHOOSE to change’ how we think. We can alter perception and change our life. Here are two ways to challenge your beliefs:

• Look for evidence to the contrary. Take note of any times when our beliefs weren’t reinforced. Acknowledging exceptions to the rule will remind us that our belief isn’t always true!

• Challenge your beliefs. Perform behavioral experiments that test how true beliefs really are. If we ‘habituate’ thinking ~ that we not good enough, choose to do something that helps to feel worthy . If we labeled ourself too wimpy to step outside of our comfort zone, Choose to force a positive thought or do something that feels a little uncomfortable ~ With practice, the brain habituates POSITIVE THOUGHT as the ‘Default’ ~ When we give up those self-limiting beliefs, we will be better equipped to reach your greatest potential!
